Performance: Don’t cry over Spilt Milk – 2015

In 1914 American writer Djuna Barnes submitted herself to force-feeding to write first hand about the experiences of hunger-striking suffragettes.

In spring 2015, four students at Plymouth College of Art including and lead by Donnelly used mime to a pre recorded rendition of Djuna Barnes ‘How it Feels to be Forcably Fed” (see video link below)…in a space with Donnelly’s paintings about suffrage and a small audience.

After rethinking that performance Donnelly decided to lean towards performing more of a lived experience; and in a second performance, had herself
silenced with milk; whilst reading out Djuna Barnes’ original work.

See video HERE for details of this performance.
